NIST Reauthorization Hearing
On March 11th at 10:00am, Dr. Walter Copan, Under Secretary for Standards and Technology and NIST Director testified before the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, Research & Technology Subcommittee. The purpose was to explore the major areas of research in the NIST laboratory programs and highlight NIST's plans and accomplishments in critical technology areas.

On March 11: Hearing on NIST's 2021 Budget

 U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., chairman of the Subcommittee on Science, Oceans, Fisheries, and Weather, will convene a hearing titled, “Securing U.S. Leadership in the Bioeconomy,” at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

 

The hearing will examine the bioeconomy, the federal government’s role in the bioeconomy, and the potential risks from such research. Witnesses will also discuss the necessary policies and practices for the advancement of biotechnology. INFO

  • Dr. Timothy Donohue, Director of the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

  • Mr. Jason Gammack, Chief Commercial Officer, Inscripta Inc.

  • Dr. Jason Kelly, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Ginkgo Bioworks 

  • Dr. Megan Palmer, Senior Research Scholar, Center for International Security and Cooperation, Stanford University

Industries of the Future Bill

Today, U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, along with Sens. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., and Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., chairman and ranking member of the Subcommittee on Science, Oceans, Fisheries, and Weather, and Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., introduced the Industries of the Future Act of 2020. The legislation would advance U.S. global leadership in artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, quantum information science, synthetic biology, and next generation wireless networks and infrastructure.
